Tues., March 14th 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm PARENT WORKSHOP: "Transitioning from School to Adulthood" Presented by: Marlene Rosenson, Educational Advocacy Trainer, Long Island Advocacy Center:
Preparing your child for life after school. New York State regs. Require transition services to begin at the age of 15. What parents can do to organize and plan for the years before graduation. Appropriate for parents of children 11 and older. Call the IDA office at (631) 261- 7441 to register.

Wed., March 15th 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm PARENT WORKSHOP: “Advocacy: LD and the Law” - Presented by John McGrath, Esq.:
Learn what school districts must include in an IEP, what records you are entitled to see and copy, what school districts must tell you and when, who may attend a CSE meeting from the school, your appeal rights if you disagree with the CSE, how to handle an Administrative Hearing, your appeal rights after an Administrative Hearing and internet sites to help your child. Thurs., March 16th 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm PARENT WORKSHOP: “The Relationship Between Speech/ Language Development and Disorders and Literacy Development”: Presented by: Sandra B. O'Reilly, M.A.,CCC, Speech/ Language Pathologist Language:
Professionals maintain that "language is reading and reading is language". There is a strong connection between oral language mastery and written language mastery. The involved components of language (such as phonology, semantics and morpho-syntactic development) will be discussed with regard to reading, writing and spelling development. Thurs., March 23rd 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm ADULT WORKSHOP: “Adult Support Group”: Presented by: Glenna Rubin, Ph.D.
Join other adults with learning disabilities for a discussion of common concerns. Facilitated by a psychologist, the evening will provide a forum to share your thoughts, discuss challenges at work and at home, and exchange ideas and resources. Call the office at (631) 261- 7441 to register.

Wed., April 5th 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm PARENT WORKSHOP: . Presented by Lynn Burke, VP of IDA: "Let Me Learn"
We don't all learn in the same way. So can we all succeed if everyone is taught in the same way? Come and see how to create a learning environment within which teachers and students (or parents and children, or employers and employees) can thrive and be successful by focusing on what should be the central issue of education. Tues., April 25th 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm PARENT WORKSHOP: Connecting Math Disabilities with Reading Disabilities.
A primary cause of math disabilities is an inability to imagine numerals and concepts which underlie math processes. In this discussion, parallels will be drawn between these processing abilities and those which underlie fluent reading and reading comprehension.
