Farmingdale's SEPTA meetings are held at Saltzman East Memorial School - 2nd floor Library, 25 Mill Lane, Farmingdale, NY from 7-9pm
Tuesday, October 17th Our "Farmingdale Staff" - a panel of Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists and Social Psychologists.
Wednesday, November 15th Christina Cacioppo Bertsch. She is an educational consultant whose topic is "Working Towards Success with College-Bound Special Education Students." She will also speak about those who are headed towards vocational schools.
Wednesday, January 17, 2007 Dr. James Snyder. He is a psychiatrist and the founder and director of Long Island Psychiatric, an outpatient center in Roslyn, N.Y. He is also a clinical assistant professor at the New York University School of Medicine and on the Advisory Board of the David Center. He will be addressing the topic of medications; how to make the decision of whether or not to medicate your child as well as any new products, research, etc. that is recent.
Monday, February 12, 2007 Bonnie Januszewski-Ytuarte (aka Bonnie Jan) is a psychiatric social worker with a specialization in the treatment of A.D.H.D., anxiety, and disorders on the autistic spectrum. She is the Coordinator of the Socialization and Self Esteem Group Program at Long Island Psychiatric in Roslyn, N.Y., and along with conducting adult workshops, is also a consultant in the fields of mental health and public education. Bonnie Jan will be conducting a workshop in which parents come to understand first-hand, the difficulties their children sometimes face in social situations. Through hands-on activities, explore creative ways to encourage children to relate to others. Activities will address social skills, emotional identification, compromise, sensory integration, organization, self esteem, and impulse control. Application to family life and/or school environments will also be discussed. Bonnie Jan is always an animated speaker and encourages parents to use humor whenever possible to educate children and cope with their situations.
Tuesday, 7 pm March 20, 2007 held in the Farmingdale High School library instead of Saltzman East Memorial Janice Smestad, founder of Empathy Associates, Ltd. who specializes in family dynamics and offers a practical, non-judgmental approach that empowers each member of the family to deepen their understanding of each other's behaviors. She will specifically address the topic of being the typical sibling of a disabled child.

Monday, May 14, 2007 Movie Night - feature presentation: How Difficult Can This Be? Understanding learning disabilities: Frustration, Anxiety, Tension, the F.A.T. City Workshop (video/DVD) - Richard D. Lavoie presents a workshop that gives the participants the opportunity to experience the emotions and anxieties that students with learning disabilities face daily, and offers suggestions to teach and help learning disabled children.
